It was in my interview class. Knowing his answer, I began to question his choice to be a waiter. Shouldn't a waiter like to meet new people? He must be (very) friendly and nice to the guests. Shouldn't a waiter have no problem on socializing with other people?
"I prefer being with myself and doing everything alone" he added.
I was wondering at that moment. But then, I realized that being a loner is not a danger.
Back then, I was a loner too. I could not get along with many people. I got few friends. I was considered as an arrogant and annoying person (the latter remains tho, lol). Even I have ever been forced by my close family members to hang out with people I was not really comfortable. Is it such a wrong conduct? Am I an antisocial person?
I was worried how if I should teach. When the time came, it was not bad. Being an introvert does not mean I cannot have a profession which needs to interact with people. What I need is to accept myself. I am not that teacher. I am myself.
Day by day, I started to figure out what kind of person I am. Well, I am still a loner, but I know how to deal with myself better. Things I like to do alone is go shopping, writw, read, and watch movies.
I do not force myself to have many friends to hang out with. Instead, I surround myself with few friends and try to have deeper friendships. Don't worry. I can hang out with many friends. But, I can only share my stories to some of them.
All in all, social withdrawal/unsociability/introverts/loner/you-name-it can be beneficial as long as you have regular social contact.
The benefits are
✅having more space to be creative and reflective
✅being a great listener
✅having fewer but stronger relationship
So, cheer up, loners.
